Water
3 simple molecules – 2 hydrogen and 1 oxygen – bind together to form 1 molecule of water, the most important substance on Earth and in the human body. Earth’s water is in crisis and the resolution of this crisis is crucial to our health and the health of our planet. Many water tests have shown that tap water is not always 100% safe. It is of course impossible to give a general advice given the different circumstances in which each of us lives in (different regulations and quality of tap water). In any case it may be worthwhile to analyse questionable water for toxic chemicals and metals, as well as to analyze mineral content, hardness and PH. If your water source is a well, have water analysed for bacteria and organic chemical pollutants and fertilizer. If you buy spring water find out if the water is bottled at the source (preferable) or transported and then treated and bottled.
The three common most effective home treatments to purify water are: solid carbon block filters (but controversially effective at removing toxic minerals), reverse osmosis (very energy efficient but not very effective at clearing out all bacteria and chemicals), and distillation (long term can cause mineral depletion because it virtually contains no minerals).
The amount of water we need is based on our size, our activity level, climate and our diet. Every day we lose around 3 litres of water through our skin, urine, bowels and lungs (as water vapor). Caffeinated drinks, such as coffee, tea, cocoa and alcoholics beverages do not count because they act as diuretics increasing fluid losses from the kidneys.
Anything that nourishes can heal, so water has a sometimes forgotten healing power.
